On September 26, the 2023 Weifang International Kite Carnival kicked off in Weifang City, also known as the "kite capital of the world", in Shandong Province. Focused on inheriting kite culture and promoting kite sports, the event aims to promote economic and trade exchanges and cooperation, strengthen the combination of different consumption scenarios, and create new momentum for consumption. Now, Shandong is accelerating the comprehensive upgrading of cultural tourism consumption and the establishment of a modern tourism industrial system.

Hans P. Boeheme, Vice President of the International Kite Federation, said at the scene that Weifang is the birthplace of kites in the world and the headquarters of the International Kite Federation and has become an international center for kite culture exchange and communication and the kite industry. Using kites as a medium, Weifang is working to establish an international platform for folk art creativity and exchange to realize exchanges on Weifang culture between ancient and modern times and between China and foreign countries and develop itself into a city of culture and creativity.

During this year's carnival event, nine major activities including the opening ceremony, the large-scale music and fireworks show, the music festival, and the China-Japan-South Korea industrial expo were organized. Besides, relevant counties, districts, and municipal development zones launched 23 characteristic activities based on their respective industrial advantages.
