Recently, the 25th Research Institute of the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation released the "Weihai-1" laser communication payload project for the first time to facilitate ocean remote sensing applications, putting a "high-speed gear" on the space information highway.

With the rapid development of marine economic construction, China's demand for large-capacity and real-time transmission of ocean data is continuously increasing. To meet the demand for real-time transmission of high-precision marine remote sensing data, the No. 25 Research Institute has built Weihai Institute of Advanced Laser COMM Technology together with Weihai, Shandong Province to jointly develop high-speed laser communication technology.

Relying on technical advantages such as high-precision targeting, capturing and tracking, and marine atmospheric turbulence correction, the "Weihai-1" laser communication project team has creatively built a "bridge" for inter-satellite and satellite-ground high-speed laser transmission. Through laser "relays" of multiple satellites, the project has realized the real-time return of large-capacity marine remote sensing data and fishing vessel detection data. The product has been fully tested and will be mounted on a satellite, which is expected to be launched in November this year. Once the satellite goes into orbit, China will realize its first testing and verification of inter-satellite and satellite-ground high-speed data transmission applied to the ocean, which will provide strong support for China's marine economic construction and marine information acquisition
